Understanding Eye Flu: There is a transparent membrane on our eye which is called conjunctiva. The inflammation or infection in the conjunctiva is called conjunctivitis (Eye Flu).

Understanding Eye Flu (Conjunctivitis)

Eye flu, commonly known as conjunctivitis, is a highly prevalent and contagious eye infection that affects millions of people worldwide. Conjunctivitis occurs when the conjunctiva, the thin, transparent membrane that covers the white part of the eye and lines the inner surface of the eyelids, becomes inflamed. The condition can be caused by a number of factors, including a viral or bacterial infection, an allergic reaction, or exposure to irritants such as smoke or chemicals.

In Short, the infection in the transparent membrane(conjunctiva) present in our eyes is called conjunctivitis. This is an eye illness and spreads very much that’s why it is called eye flu.

Main reasons of causing Eye flu(conjunctivitis)

  • It is an infectious eye disease that spreads due to both bacteria and viruses.
  • During the rainy season, it spreads more due to floods and environmental changes.

Signs/Symptoms of Eye Flu (Conjunctivitis) 

  • Red Eye
  • Swelling in Eyelids
  • Sticky eyelids
  • Itching in eye
  • Yellow and cloudy discharge.
  • If sufferer is children then it can cause even fever.

Treatment of Eye Flu

  • Do not rub your eyes.
  • Use protective goggles (Black glasses)
  • Avoid contact lenses.
  • Use medication prescribed by doctor.
  • Clean eyes with clean water by dipping cotton in the water, firstly take some boiled water put the water to cool down for some time then dip the cotton in clean water and clean the eyes from the side of the nose downwards and from the upper side in every two hours.
  • If vision gets blurred, and the patient is suffering from any pre-existing eye disease or has undergone any kind of eye surgery, he should immediately contact an ophthalmologist.

In case you are unable to find any medical guidance and you are suffering from eye flu the safe option to use as a medication is ofloxacin drop.

Prevention of Eye Flu

  • Clean hands with soap and water or do sanitize your hands.
  • Wear protective goggles.
  • Avoid to touch repeatedly eyes.
  • Avoid sharing personal belongings (towel, bedsheet, eyedrops, etc.)
  • Maintain a clean environment and avoid moving in crowded places.
  • Avoid Swimming.I want to suggest that “Prevention is better than cure” because if you get infected with eye flu it will spoil your 5 to 10 days of time.
